When I was in high school and working at a boring office job, my mother suggested I listen to podcasts to alleviate my boredom. I quickly became accustomed to working through my Excel spreadsheets while listening to strangers pour their hearts out on NPR—tales of death, heartbreak, and the profound struggles of life.
One podcast that particularly captivated me was Modern Love by The New York Times. The raw, heartfelt submissions from writers struck a chord with me. Since my introduction to Modern Love, I knew that someday I wanted to make a piece about love in the same spirit of that vulnerability.
This project took birth as I was in a confusing and tumultuous relationship that often left me wondering: What Is Love?
So, I started asking my friends some burning questions about love —a lot of questions; to help me make sense of the situation that I was in.
The finished product is this video: Disjoint Presents: What is Love?
Creating it felt like wielding a porous sponge, absorbing my myriad of emotions and then releasing them, offering me newfound clarity. My hope is that it brings insight to you as well.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to my friends for their steadfast support and love—without you, I would be adrift.
Disjoint.
